Reevaluating Paths: Why Stepping Back is Key to Moving Forward
I must lay bare a confession that has been stirring in my heart. I stand at the crossroads of a decision, one that weighs heavy on my spirit. (confession#1) But I'm hopeful, as I write this letter, that the right path will reveal itself amidst these words.
Three years ago, when I was preparing to launch Desklesss Academy, the landscape of virtual assistance and online work was quite familiar – mirroring the frame of the industry when I started on my virtual journey. This familiar structure & operations persisted until this February when I was finalizing my courses. By the time I launched Desklesss in April, AI had already begun reshaping the Online industry with a user-friendly touch, unlike anything we'd seen before.
Fast forward to today, the industry landscape looks dramatically different and I anticipate even more transformation in the upcoming weeks. To stay in the game, you need a comprehensive understanding – from the basics to the complex and every nuance in between. AI, a new entrant in the field, though unrelated to my career as a virtual assistant, necessitates continuous online research, learning, experimentation, and networking to maintain relevance in the remote industry.
A nagging doubt gnaws at me as I pen down these words: do I want to tread this path? Given my responsibility to guide others on their online journey, I feel compelled to stay current. I know everything there is to know about life as a VA and working online pre-AI. But having been in the industry for so long, I also acknowledge the looming importance of AI in online work. Thus, instead of being the lead and an expert in the VA industry, I'm slowly becoming a beginner, yet again. (confession#2)
Having an online presence is crucial for working online - a domain where I've struggled due to my introverted nature. My Online Presence requires constant self-affirmation, I can tell you that! (confession#3)
Promoting my own online business has reinforced an inconvenient truth: I need to be the face, producing content, interacting, and working the network. If you glance through my work history, you'll see my tendency for assistant roles or customer service roles. I enjoy the comfort of operating behind the scenes. (confession#4)
Simultaneously, I've been charmed by the allure of the classic brick-and-mortar business model, amplified by online marketing. Ideas of ventures, from bookstores and coffee shops to selling superfoods, have frequently occupied my thoughts. A recent proposition deeply resonating with my heart is steering me to reconsider the Virtual Lifestyle and Desklesss Academy. (confession#5)
As paradoxical as it sounds, with online work being the new reality for many, I'm contemplating stepping away from it as its the old life for me. It feels like the time to embrace a new chapter is imminent.
As I sit here contemplating, a sobering truth unfolds before me. The realm of the online industry and remote work still brims with potential, opportunities I could still tap into, and knowledge I could share. Yet, I sense a shift, a subtle stirring within me whispering - perhaps this no longer resonates with my life's rhythm.
Don't worry, although I don't think you do :), I won't quit my newsletters – they allow me to organize thoughts and share experiences. While the content might undergo a subtle transformation, I'll continue to share my heartfelt confessions, whichever path I tread. So, stay tuned.
Apologies for missing our Tuesday rendezvous. Yesterday wasn't the day for me to share these sentiments. In my commitment to promoting mental health, freedom from social media pressure, and sharing on our own terms, I chose to wait. And share when I felt ready to offer you my most authentic and real-time thought process.
always a click away,
Kat
